Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison has decided to fund and recognize the City’s workforce for “performing exceptionally during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
During the December 12 monthly meeting, city council members unanimously heeded Harrison's recommendation and approved a plan to reward essential workers with Christmas bonuses through ARPA funds.
As part of the plan, which was put into effect immediately on December 12, eligible employees who provided or continue to provide exemplary service during the pandemic will receive premium pay of $13 per hour.
Full-time employees who were full-time and worked at least 97 hours during the period of July 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022, will each receive a one-time payment of $1,250.
Part-time employees who were part-time and worked at least 49 hours during the period of July 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022, will each receive a one-time payment of $625.
Those who recently got employed with the city or have left, Harrison said they do not qualify for the full amount. Their payment amount will be calculated by hours worked.
“Thank you guys, I’m sure I’m talking for all the employees as well,” said Harrison. “Especially with inflation hitting hard, this should help quite a bit!”
So when will the city’s essential workers receive their Christmas bonuses?
Mayor Harrison said that will be a special surprise from Santa Clause sometime this week.
According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, premium pay is one of the four permitted ways for local governments to spend ARPA funds.
