At February's Special-Called Meeting, the Whitley County Fiscal Court unanimously voted "yes" to Resolution 2022-01, which states that non-customers of Whitley County Sanitation can now use the county's new sanitation transfer station.
The resolution approves non-customers to pay $25 per pick-up truckload of garbage.
Judge-Executive Pat White, Jr. said current sanitation customers could continue to use the transfer station free of charge upon bringing along a billing statement as proof of current payment and customer status. If a Williamsburg resident wants to use the transfer station, they will just pay the transfer station during business hours.
"It's probably very well worth $25 if you consider having to drive to Lily as an alternative," White said. "This helps open up avenues to properly dispose of garbage versus improperly disposing them, and we want to open every door we can to keep the County clean."
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed on weekends. The Transfer Station is located at 535 Happy Hollow Road in Williamsburg.
