An inmate held at Whitley County Detention Center on September 7 later died at a nearby hospital, according to Williamsburg Police Detective Bobby Freeman.
Detention staff reportedly checked on Aaron K. Burnette II after his video arraignment on September 8 around 2:39 p.m., where he was found unresponsive in his cell.
“When he came back from his video arraignment, he was found lying on the floor,” said Det. Freeman.
Freeman mentioned Narcan was administered twice, once in the cell and once in the booking area until EMS arrived.
EMS transported Burnette to Baptist Health Corbin, where he was declared deceased on September 9.
Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley confirmed the investigation is ongoing. An autopsy and toxicology report has been conducted to determine the cause of death.
According to the jail tracker, Burnette was arrested by Kentucky State Police on September 7 at 9:59 p.m. on various charges involving Fleeing/Evading Police - Second Degree (motor vehicle), Drug Paraphernalia - Buy/Possess, Careless Driving, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication - Controlled Substance (Excludes Alcohol), Fleeing/Evading Police - Second Degree (on foot), and Disorderly Conduct.
