Barbourville native and Union College basketball player Markelle Turner received the AAC's first Player of the Week Award. Turner is the two-time reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a two-time All-American.
Turner led his team to an 88-85 win over Shawnee State to open the season, then he nailed three-straight free-throws in the last: 26 of the game during his team's 94-92 win over Montreat. Turner averaged 28 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists during the first two games of the season.
It marks the sixth time the former Knox Central standout has earned the conference's top weekly award. The Bulldogs are in search of their 10th-straight conference championship.
