Traffic Violation Leads to Recovery of Stolen Knox County Vehicle

According to Corbin Police, Patrolman William Stewart observed a vehicle traveling on the Cumberland Falls Highway without a registration plate early Monday morning, February 28.

Upon stop and approach of the vehicle, Stewart saw a glass jar containing several hypodermic needles. The search of the operator's license reported it had been previously suspended for DUI.

The Vehicles Identification Number search alerted officers that the vehicle was stolen out of Knox County. In addition, Patrolman Stewart located suspected burglary tools on the front dash that the driver reported belonged to him.

Mark Lawson, 37, of Williamsburg, was arrested and charged with Multiple Traffic Violations, Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Latasha Rains, 28, of Rockholds, was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sergeant Stephen Meadors assisted on the scene.
