Somerset man in custody after shooting threat at University of the Cumberlands

college threat situation is “under control” after a man reportedly called the University of the Cumberlands, threatening to execute a shooting.

Just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Williamsburg Police were asked to assist the University of Cumberlands involving a threat that was made toward the school over the phone.

A preliminary investigation indicates a man placed a call to the university, claiming he was going to shoot up the campus. As a result, extra security measures and a high law enforcement presence were dispatched across the campus for about an hour as the investigation was conducted.

Officers stated the suspect was quickly identified and tracked to a location in Somerset, KY, where he was taken into custody by Kentucky State Police and the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office.

Dustin Collins Burchett, 35, of Somerset, has been arrested and served with an Arrest Warrant and charged with Terroristic Threatening - Second Degree.
