The North Laurel Jaguars traveled to Lexington to participate in the White, Greer & Maggard Holiday Classic hosted by Lexington Catholic and managed to pull away for a 71-56 win over Campbell County.
North Laurel got off to a fast start, thanks to Ryan Davidson. The senior took over in the paint early as he tossed in 11 points to give the Jaguars a 23-18 lead at the end of the first quarter. Davidson led all scorers with 28 points on the night.
Campbell County picked up the defense in the second quarter and held North Laurel to 12 points but could not chip away at the lead as North Laurel led 35-30 at the half. Davidson and Reed Sheppard scored four points each in the second quarter.
Sheppard heated up in the third period as he poured in 10 points, while Davidson added 11 points. Kyler Elza added a three-pointer for the Jaguars. Sheppard finished with 22 points on the night. North Laurel outscored Campbell County 24-12 to take a 59-42 cushion with one quarter remaining to play.
North Laurel improved to 8-4 on the season, while Campbell County fell to 6-4. The Jaguars will face North Oldham in the second round on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. North Oldham defeated West Jessamine 72-54.
