Local ministry to host Community Walk, raise funds for sober living house

"A place of hope and healing in a healthy environment," is the mission of Hope Place, which hopes to provide a sober living house for men transitioning from residential drug treatment.

Located in Corbin, Hope Place is a newly founded ministry that currently meets on the third Tuesday of every month to provide fellowship, as well as essential cleaning and hygiene supplies for those struggling with addiction in the community.

“Eventually we hope to provide a residence for males who are transitioning from residential treatment,” said Pastor Lorie Crawford. “Our mission is to welcome them in and teach them about God’s love, all while offering fellowship and resources during their healing journey.”

To raise funds for Hope Place, Crawford and Raegan Frost have organized a Community Walk which will take place on Saturday, January 21 at 10 a.m., in accordance with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The race will begin and end at the Church of the Nazarene at 409 Master Street.

Registration has already begun and costs $25 per adult, $15 for students ages 13 to 18, and $5 for children 12 and under. Leashed pets are also welcome.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to benefit Hope Place’s mission.

Community members can register online, or local businesses can sponsor the event by going to Hope Place Community Walk (google.com). You may also register at 9 a.m. on race day.

“Join us as we walk through the streets of downtown Corbin, in solidarity, with this new mission in our community to bring more love and community resources to Corbin,” said Crawford. All participants will receive a community walk t-shirt on the day of the event.

Even if you can’t participate in the walk, Crawford simply asks for you to spread the word.
