The North Laurel Lady Jaguars got off to a hot start and cruised to a 65-33 road win over Clay County on Friday, January 6.
North Laurel improved its 49th District win streak to 33 games and picked up its 11-straight win over the Lady Tigers. Brooke Nichelson set the tone early for North Laurel as she poured in 11 points in the first period and led all scorers with 27 points for the game.
The Lady Jaguars used a timely full-court press to speed up Clay County and force several turnovers in the first quarter to take a 20-8 lead. They were able to outscore the Lady Tigers 17-9 in the second quarter to pull away for a 37-17 lead at the half.
Emily Sizemore turned in a solid performance for the Lady Jags by using her court vision to find open teammates. She also scored 11 points for the game. Chloe McKnight and Mariella Claybrook scored six points each for North Laurel.
Sidney Jones and Mackenzie Sizemore led Clay County with nine points each, while Julia Collins finished with seven points. The Lady Tigers fell to 6-8 on the season and 4-4 in district play.
North Laurel improved to 9-3 on the season and 2-0 in district play. The Lady Jags will be back in action on Monday as they travel to South Laurel to take on the Lady Cardinals.
