KY Students invited to submit to annual Ag poster, essay contest

Dr. Ryan Quarles, Commissioner of Agriculture, invited students throughout the state to submit posters and essays for the Department of Agriculture’s annual contest.

The theme for 2022 is “Kentucky Agriculture Sustains Me.”

Students, K through 12, are invited to submit a poster, an essay up to 500 words, or a digital entry, either a photograph or original digital art, by March 7, 2022,

“Without agriculture, we don’t exist. It’s that simple,” Commissioner Quarles said. “Every student knows they must eat to live, but many may not realize the importance of agricultural products to our everyday lives. This year’s contest is a nod to those who provide the products that sustain our very lives.”

Winners will be notified by April 15, 2022. The winners in each grade will be selected for essays and posters. One statewide winner for digital artwork will be selected.

Each winner will receive a $100 award from Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom. They will be acknowledged at the 2022 Poster and Essay Contest Awards next year.

The winners will have their work displayed in the Commissioner’s Frankfort offices and at the Kentucky State Fair in August in Louisville.
