Groundbreaking Ceremony set for Corbin's horse racing facility Cumberland Run

Corbin and Williamsburg are just months away from watching horses race to the finish line on their new harness racing tracks.

At Corbin's City Council meeting this month, Bruce Carpenter, Executive Director of Corbin Economic Development, announced the official Groundbreaking Ceremony for Cumberland Run, Corbin's racing facility.

Carpenter said the ceremony would be on Monday, January 31 at noon at the Cumberland Run location, just off the Corbin Bypass at 75 Buchanan Blvd Corbin, KY 40701.

Cumberland Run is the counterpart to the Cumberland Mint, Williamsburg's racing facility. Both facilities will include harness races, 400 historical racing machines, and a restaurant. There's also talk about adding a hotel on both sites eventually.

200-250 full-time jobs are expected to be created from these facilities, from culinary to IT to maintenance to finance positions.

Corbin City Council also unanimously approved the final construction plans for the race track as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Committee.

An opening date for the track will be tentatively set sometime later this year.
