The Whitley County, Fine Arts Extension Office, is hosting its 4th annual pumpkin decorating contest this week!
“This is one of our favorite events!,” said Mawnie Belcher, Community Arts Program Assistant. “We love to see the variety of creativity in our community and I am amazed each year as participants register their pumpkins for the contest.”
Age groups for the contest include children (0-5), youth (6-12), teens (13-18), and adults. Everyone of every age is welcome to participate.
Pumpkins can be decorated or carved. Decorators can be creative and add a “story card" to accompany their pumpkins. Remember to write your name, age, and phone number on a card to go along with your pumpkin too.
Pumpkins should be dropped off at the Fine Arts Center at 428 Main Street from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 27.
Voting in-person will begin on Friday, October 28, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Online voting will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Facebook on the Whitley County Fine Arts Extension Office page.
Then, all pumpkins will be displayed, and prizes will be awarded on Monday, October 31, during the city’s trick-or-treating hours. The Center will also hand out playdoh, tattoos, and bouncy balls during those hours.
“This is a wonderful event to bring the family to, as you make your rounds through town to Trick or Treat,” Belcher added.
There will be a Grand Champion Trophy, and each age group will have a first-place winner who will receive a ribbon and an art prize.
