If you have a sweet tooth, El Gallo Treats just might be the place for you.
A mother-daughter duo recently opened the specialty ice cream shop on Court Square in downtown Barbourville, offering a variety of milkshakes and candy.
Owners Guadalupe and Samara Salgado previously owned a Tex-Mex restaurant called “El Gallo” in Tennessee. However, Guadalupe decided to chase her dream of owning an ice cream shop, so she and her daughter moved to Barbourville to make it happen.
The shop’s name “El Gallo” translates to “the rooster” in Spanish, which was named in honor of Samara's grandfather, Santiago because friends and family nicknamed him “Rooster.”
“We have a variety of milkshakes, cake, street style corn, Mexican candies, boba, and banana splits,” said Samara. “We made the menu inspired by freakshakes and just these insane looking shakes with all these crazy toppings. They’re messy but they’re fun to eat.”
Business hours for El Gallo’s Treats during the 74th annual Daniel Boone Festival will be 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Usual hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday closed.
“We hope to continue to get the community’s support and we’re looking to expand our business in the future and add in what the people ask for,” added Guadalupe.
