Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic preview

It's high school football time in the bluegrass state, which means it's time for another Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic at Corbin High School. This year's matchups (Friday, August 19) should be exciting as Williamsburg faces Oneida (TN) in the opener and Corbin takes on Pikeville in the nightcap.

In the first game, the pass-heavy Williamsburg Yellow Jackets take on the Smashmouth-style Oneida Indians from Tennessee. The Yellow Jackets defeated Oneida last year 50-21 in the season-opening.

Williamsburg was led by Sydney Bowen, who completed 15 of 27 passes for 338 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Bowen will be back in action on Friday as he starts his senior campaign. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m.

In the nightcap, the Redhounds will square off with the Class 1A Defending State Champions, the Pikeville Panthers. The Panthers went 14-2 last season, with their only losses coming to Lexington Christian and Madison Central.

Corbin finished last season 12-1 after falling to Johnson Central in the third round of the Class 4A State Finals.
