On Thursday morning, a body was discovered in the Knox Central High School parking lot. Around 6:09 a.m., Barbourville police responded to a report of an adult male who was not breathing. Police arrived at the location and discovered a deceased man in the parking lot.
The school system was quickly informed, and classes were canceled.
Barbourville Police issued a statement on Facebook:
"The Barbourville Police Department is currently conducting a death investigation at Knox Central High School. The department received a call of an unresponsive adult male at 6:09 a.m. this morning. When officers arrived at the scene they located a deceased male in the parking lot. The Knox County School system was immediately notified and school was canceled to give investigators unimpeded access to the scene. While this incident did occur on Knox County Public Schools property there is no connection with the incident and the school system. The Barbourville Police Department and the Knox County Coroner's office is continuing the investigation."
According to reports, the cause of death was suicide, but the identity of the man has not been released.
