The Corbin Lady Redhounds did not go down without a fight as they pushed state powerhouse George Rogers Clark to the limit before falling 43-35 during the first round of the Mingua Beef Jerky Girls’ Sweet 16 on Thursday, March 10.
The Lady Redhounds were not able to knock down shots and were out-rebounded by the Lady Cardinals (41-25), but they managed to battle and keep the game close with hard-nosed defense. Corbin held GRC to 6 of 21 shooting in the first half of action.
The Lady Cardinals held a 13-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Corbin managed to outscore them 6-5 in the second quarter to tighten the score at 18-16 at the half.
Darcie Anderson led the Lady Redhounds with 13 points, while Kallie Housley added 10 points on the night. Shelby Stewart knocked down a pair of three-pointers for Corbin and finished with eight points for the game.

The difference in the game was the third quarter as GRC outscored Corbin 12-5 to pull away to a 30-21 cushion with one quarter remaining to play. Clara Byars led all scorers with 21 points, while Kennedy Stamper added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Cardinals.
Corbin man one last push as they poured in six-straight points to start the fourth quarter to close the gap at 30-27, but the Lady Cardinals answered and managed to hold on for the victory.
The Lady Redhounds finished their season with an impressive 25-8 record and a 13th Region Championship. Their unlikely run in the region tournament will be talked about for a while.
